A love Story for the Ages & History in the Making: The Straus Artifacts on Display in Pigeon Forge!

The story of the RMS Titanic is one etched in history, a profound narrative of human spirit, loss, and incredible courage. Among the most revered of these stories is that of Isador and Ida Straus, whose unwavering devotion to one another, even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, has become a timeless symbol of enduring love.

This summer, the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge is honored to present an extraordinary and deeply moving exhibit. For the very first time, the public will have the solemn privilege of viewing two profoundly personal artifacts belonging to Isador and Ida Straus:

  • Isador’s cherished pocket watch, recovered with his body, a poignant reminder of time's passage and a life lived with integrity.
  • A heartfelt letter penned by Ida herself aboard the RMS Titanic, offering an intimate and unprecedented glimpse into her final thoughts and feelings.

These precious items, rich in both emotion and profound historical significance, have never before been seen by the public. They offer an intimate connection to a couple whose bond was so strong that, as the ship sank, Ida famously refused a place on a lifeboat, declaring, "As we have lived, so will we die, together." Their reported decision to remain side by side stands as a powerful testament to their unwavering commitment.

"We are profoundly moved and humbled to share these incredibly personal items belonging to Isador and Ida Straus," said Paul Burns, Curator at Titanic Museum Attraction. "To witness Isador's pocket watch and read Ida's letter from the Titanic offers an emotional and powerful link to their legendary love story and the human cost of this profound tragedy. This exhibit allows our visitors to connect firsthand with the depth of their devotion and the profound impact of their choices."

This special presentation is a unique window of opportunity. These singular artifacts will be on limited display before proceeding to auction in the United Kingdom at Henry Aldridge and Son, the world’s leading Titanic memorabilia auctioneers, where they are anticipated to fetch over $1 million. This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to pay respects to the Straus' legacy and witness these tangible pieces of their history before they find a new, private steward.

Andrew Aldridge, Managing Director of Henry Aldridge and Son Ltd., shared, “We are honored to be auctioning these unique items that bear testament to the unbreakable bond that Isador and Ida Straus shared on the Titanic until the very end and are delighted to partner with our colleagues at Titanic Museum Attractions to bring these unique items to exhibition and share the Straus’ incredible story.”

The Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge is dedicated to preserving and sharing the individual stories of all those aboard the RMS Titanic. This special exhibit honoring the Straus' adds a deep, personal layer to the historical event, inviting visitors to connect with their love story and the enduring human impact of the disaster.

In addition to this profound new exhibit, visitors will continue to explore authentic artifacts, walk through stunning recreations of the ship’s interior, and immerse themselves in Titanic’s incredible story. From the chilling iceberg to the majestic Grand Staircase, every detail throughout the Titanic Museum Attraction is designed to honor the ship’s history and the souls aboard.
